We had the most delightful weather for this celebration of the allied victory over Nazi Germany.
It was an impressive convoy waiting for departure in Satory with our three half-tracks, our Diamond T 969A, our GMC CCKW 353 H1 tipper, the many Jeep and Dodge and our military field kitchen for which it was the first outing since its complete restoration.
Upon arrival, the convoy was split in two in order to celebrate in the two neighboring cities of Jouy en Josas and Les Loges en Josas.
We had an outstanding welcome from both municipalities : warm, well organized and with a dedicated person all day long to give on the microphone all the expected information to the public. Many came : for about 1000 visitors, it has been their “first time in a vintage military vehicle”, either Jeep, Dodge, half-track or GMC CCKW.
An excellent movie was shown in the township hall with original footage about the advance of General Leclerc’s famous 2nd Armored Division in the area of Jouy en Josas and Les Loges en Josas (thanks to the association “Le Souvenir Français” : http://le-souvenir-francais.fr/.
Let’s remember though that this little town is known worldwide for its famous “toile de Jouy” essential element of Decorative Arts. It was created in the Jouy en Josas manufacture in 1760 by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf. The site was chosen in relation to the “Bièvre” river (name originating from beaver) and the chemical properties of its water well adapted to the treatment of the canvas. A museum recalls this industrial and artistic adventure.
