Wooden beds proved unsatisfactory and a \u2018composite\u2019 bed with steel sides, framing, and wooden bottom slats was developed. For the same reason, many vehicles saw their original closed cabs abandoned in favor of open cabs with canvas top.  They were called \u201ctorpedo\u201d.  They also offered a lower silhouette for shipment.<\/p>&#13;\n&#13;\n<p>Our GMC cargo is nicknamed by the club members \u201ccaisse bois\u201d which translates into \u201cwooden bed\u201d as it is its distinctive feature.
