For this 25th “Locomotion en Fête” (a gathering of everything that has an engine: vintage cars, trucks, tractors, tanks,…) UNIVEM brought few vehicles: Jeep 2nd French Armored Division, GMC CCKW dump truck, field kitchen and Scout Car (that came by their own means on the road!). The theme was about a small camp of the 2nd French Armored Division with a lot of details: kitchen, food, tools, bike,… This small reenactment was much appreciated by the public, especially the field kitchen!
The Scout Car was on the “Grand Défi de Jean” stand (“Jean’s Big Challenge”). It was about gathering every vehicle that the collector Jean Pisapia (who is also a member of UNIVEM) had for a moment in his life: several Jeeps (among them, the “Tour de France” one), Dodge, GMC, Chevrolet bomb service, Scout-Car and even a plane! Challenge completed!
This year again, there was a tank arena: M24 Chaffee from the Saumur Tank Museum, a M4A1 Sherman, an Achilles Tank Destroyer and a Duplex Drive Sherman replica from the Balmoral Green Association, or even a rare german half-track Sd.Kfz 7 from a French collection.
There wasn’t much military vehicles, but some nice ones were there: Ward La France M1A1, Citroën U23, AML90 Panhard or this SUMB with an excavator.
As opposed to last year, there was no big parade with all the vehicles in the afternoon, but smaller ones, like here the one with the military vehicles.
Also to mention, these WW2 military vehicles which knew a civilian career after the war: Jeep Willys Slat Grill, GMC CCKW, Dodge 6×6 for the fire department, or this huge Mack NO converted to a wrecker.
As a conclusion, even with the exhausting heat, the weekend was a success!
